STC 45. Renouard 184. Graesse I, 212. Brunet I, 474. - Hervorragende Edition der klassischen Abhandlung von Aristoteles zur Zoologie und Fortpflanzung zusammen mit dem neuplatonistischen Kommentar von Johannes (auch Joannes) Philoponus. - "This scientific maturity is even clearer in the next great treatise, `De generatione animalium`, in which he [Aristotle] applies his concepts of form and matter, actuality and potentaility, to the problems or reproduction, inheritance, and growth of such inessential characters as color. On the question of classification he remains tentative and critical, as we would expect of one who rejected Plato`s theory of form". (DSB I, 259). - "Possibly Philoponus` Christianization of Aristotelian doctrine allowed the Alexandrian academy to continue despite criticism from the church. Among his notable commentaries are those on Aristotle`s Metaphysics, the logical treatises of the Organon, the tract on Physics, the three books of De anima (On the Soul), and De generatione animalium (On the Generation of Animals)". (Encyclopedia Britannica). - Titel mit kl. Stempel und zwei kleinen hinterlegten Fehlstellen (ohne Textberührung). Einige Anstreichungen von alter Hand. Vereinzelt leicht fleckig.
